How to File for Divorce
I was in divorce court a few weeks ago and witnessed two people make the biggest mistake people make when filing their own divorce actions.
They showed up in court without a divorce judgment for the judge to sign. The divorce judgment is the document the judge signs that officially ends your marriage.
The signed divorce judgment serves as proof that you are actually divorced. It is also the document that will allow you to resume the use of your maiden name. You will need to take a copy with you when you go to the DMV and social security office to change your name.
A copy of divorce judgment is kept on file at the courthouse and you should file your copy away with your other important documents.
In case you are wondering what a divorce judgment looks like, you can find a copy here.

How to File for Divorce
Before you decide to file your own divorce action, it may be a good idea to visit the courthouse and observe the process.
You can witness first-hand what you will need to do and say when you go to court. And most importantly you can learn from the mistakes other people make when filing their own divorce cases.
In Greensboro, divorce cases are scheduled every Monday at 2 pm in courtroom 2A.
